New School Year - Fired Up! is going strong!

Today Fired Up! had a second meeting and I got to see our girls from last year and meet new girls who just joined!
We started off by establsihing some basic rules of the group, such as confidentiality, listening to when someone else is talking, speaking up your mind and have fun.
Then we played a game where we learned each other names, so that girls could feel more comfortable.
Our topic today was self awareness and everyone took a colors test to see what their personalities traits were. We went around the group and talked about what color each girl was and how it benefits them as well as what challenges it may cause in their life.
Next week we are talking about using the strengths and not focus on the weaknesses.

Time Management//important tools

Last Wednesday, March 25 we had a very special speaker Scott Carley come and talk to the gilrs about time management. http://www.growthdynamic.org/
Scott is a good friend of mine and I used to be his student, so I know his tools work.
The girls were "hungry" for his information.
First he talked about the habits of successful teens and explained each one to them with examples.
Then he moved on to talk about the actual tools that you can use every day. A teen's life is more comlicated than I thought it would be with their school work, home work, clubs, chores and so on, so this workshop gave them something to use to organize their life and not feel overwhelmed.
The girls are also working on a business idea right now and these tools will help them to keep track of all to-do things they need to think about to make sure they get done.

Show me the money//Cashflow game by Olga

On Saturday, March 13 all of our girls and Julia came over to play Cashflow game at my house. We had to have lunch first of course and enjoyed hot pizza while catching up pn the latest.
Cashflow is a pretty powerful game to learn the basics of investing and handling money. http://www.richdad.com/store/ProductDetail.aspx?id=1 The goal is to get out of the rat race on the fast track to get your dream. You do so by creating enough passive income to replace your monthly paycheck that covers your expenses. I could tell there were a lot new terms for the girls, but they did an amazing job of catching everything so quickly and we started to play.
We had a great time and did not notice how quickly the time had passed. Tanisha who was a truck driver got out of the rat race first. We did not have enough time to finish, but they got a taste of how it feels like to have passive income streams so you don't need to work and exchange your time for the money, instead you can make the money work for you.

Careers by Tanisha

This Wednesday we talked about careers. I know what your thinking your probably like I'm to young to be thinking about this now, but it's better to start thinking early then to start thinking late. We did a survey, it was pretty much about what you liked. The end results were pretty surprising for some, including me.You see I want to major in something have in to do with animals, and after I was done taking the survey it said I would be good at Education and Training.I was totally flabbergasted, but Olga and Jen explained to me that Education and Training might be something I'm good at, but it doesn't mean I have to pursue. We all had a lot of fun finding out what we might do in the future!!!!!!

Money and business by Alisha

On Wednesday February 18, 2009 Gayle, the special speaker we had that day, taught us some amazing ways to save money. And the best part was how easy it is. I enjoyed her easy going spirit and her straight forward attitude. She talked about what to think about and questions to ask yourself when starting a business. Did you know that there is a cycle by which you earn and spend your money? Gayle gave helpful tips and helped us to understand when we start to save money we don't have to put our whole check or allowance in the bank. I'm am so glad I came. She has now inspired me to save up to 100,000$. It's possible!

Relationships with parents and friends by Tanisha

This Wednesday we talked about what kind of relationships you had with your family, friends, etc.I thought it was really important because not everyone has a good relationship with their parents.Julia,Jen,and Olga talked to us about how to handle certain kind of situations with your parents, like for example if you disagree with something your parents are saying don't get an attitude with them, just simply say "I disagree with that because...."
However we also discussed the relationships with friends also. And we asked ourselves what kind of characteristics do you like to see in your friends.Everyone had a positive thing to say. I really enjoyed this Wednesday, it was so much fun!!!!

Relationships with the parents by Eunice

Today in Fired Up! we learned what types of people there are or more likely their personalities like :Agressive,Passive, Passive-Agressive and Asservative. It was pretty interesting seeing situations in different views. We acted out some situations; the girls as the "parents", and Julia & Olga as the "teens". We saw that just like it's hard for us to deal with our parents and their "rules", they have it tough too. They have to deal with teenagers and we don't give in easily. But we learned why it is important to have rules and why it's important to have and follow them. We should follow them because that's what is best for us or else we would be living in a more crazy world. It was also fun to draw the pictures of our families and write how we are with them. I also learned that we don't have to be agressive with people. That we are in control of the relationship and not the other way around!
I learned a personal thing that none of the other girls learned. When the girls left I stayed behind to talk to Julia about a thing that was bothering me and she helped me. I learned that if you have a problem with someone or they are getting on you're nerves or something they sometimes don't realize it. I guess you could say it's because you have a different personality than that peron. That doesn't mean you don't love them. So you have to talk to the person! And just because they might get on your nerves sometimes it doesn't mean you dont love them! If you didn't love them you won't go out of your way to fix it! It's because you care about them AND that's why it bothers you that the person is getting on your nerves! So thank you "MY"Julia for always being there for me when I need you! And of course Olga for keeping our sessions in order! If you didn't I would probably be talking the whole hour (LOL... ! :) ) "I CREATE MY LIFE "
